Neil Baker M.D. works with
healthcare organizations and individual executives to enhance leadership and
team impact through In-the-Moment
Leadership Strategies. This means using any work situation, even the most
complex and difficult, as an opportunity to achieve immediate impact on quality
of work relationships and on progress toward results.
Neil has developed these approaches
as a leader, consultant, and executive coach for 30 years. He began
his career in academic psychiatry where he quickly discovered his passion
for leadership and organizational development. It was clear to him that
exceptional patient care requires outstanding teams and leaders.
From early on, Neil also saw how powerful stress and
complexity can be in provoking counterproductive behavior in anyone at
times--even very skilled professionals. He feels that the key to his own
development has been accepting these human vulnerabilities in himself.
He served as Associate Professor and Director
of Psychiatric Inpatient Services at the University of Colorado Health Sciences
Center in Denver, Colorado. Later he became Medical Director of Clinical
Improvement at Group Health Cooperative in Seattle, Washington responsible for
quality for a state-wide $1 billion healthcare delivery system. In addition, he
has served as faculty and improvement advisor for ten years for the Institute
for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in Cambridge, Massachusetts for multiple
projects including a program for professional development for practice
facilitators in primary care practice transformation.
